Just a few months ago, kindergarten-aged Aeta enrollees at Maruglo Elementary School in Capas, Tarlac could hardly survive a school year away from their parents. This situation changed when we opened the kindergarten school in the community of these children in Yangka, an area up in the mountain kilometers away from Maruglo. The school building is an old structure, renovated through the help of a family based oversees but whose roots are in the province of Tarlac. The parents willingly led the rebuilding of the structure that now houses nursery and kindergarten classes for around 46 young enrollees.
HSSC hopes that the kindergarten school in Yangka will be fully supported by the Department of Education in the future, albeit its current enrollees are considered enrolled at Maruglo Elementary School. The teacher is also an Aeta who completed her course in BS Education.
