They were left on the streets

They have nowhere to go when the government suddenly declared a lockdown. When the authorities said everyone in the capital should be on enhanced quarantine in their homes, they have no option but the streets —no quarantine, no protection, no food or vitamins. They are the homeless Filipinos of Manila.

The Holy Spirit Social Center is quite familiar with some of them, at least those who roam within the vicinity where the office is. HSSC actually runs an evolving program for and with them. COVID locked down the city but HSSC and the sisters left in the convent do remember the homeless partners of the program, and worry about them.

Thus the distribution of food started. Two sisters together with a scholar and a staff who reside inside the convent went around in the afternoon today to deliver a meal to the homeless in the vicinity. It was heartwarming, at least our friends without shelter would not sleep tonight with empty stomachs. The plan is to do food distribution each day until the lockdown is lifted.God bless our worried hearts, and may we continue to be bothered by the plight of the most marginalized among us here in Manila, the homeless.
